HFN Impact Showcase: Hinoman and the Story of the Mankai

I hate vegetables.

Well, maybe hate is a strong word.  I have grown to tolerate at least some vegetables because, and only because, they are good for you.

Now pasta I like.  It would be cool if I could eat vegetables by eating pasta.  Or by eating bread.

I know that protein is also good for you.

But did you know that one in nine people inhabiting the globe suffer from chronic undernourishment?  That is 795 million people according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, of which 780 million live in developing countries.  And the problems of food security are only getting worse.  According to UNICEF, undernutrition leads to half of the world’s deaths of children under the age of 5.

It’s not easy to feed a cow so that it becomes a source of protein.  Cows eat about 24 -28 pounds of feed a day (different amounts at different stages of their lives; quality of feed will also affect how much they need to eat).  The population is expected to top 9.6 billion people by 2050.  Feeding cows to feed people will not be the answer.

So whether you are a vegetarian or vegan looking for alternative sources of protein, a kid who won’t eat her vegetables, or a rural subsistence farmer in Africa who struggles to afford protein for his family, Hinoman’s mission is to provide high impact ecologically sustainable nutrition. http://www.hinoman.biz/

The key is Mankai, the world’s smallest vegetable (0.5 mm).  Manhai is a miniscule whole leaf vegetable plant rich with protein and vitamins that grows on water and is cultivated using algorithms and other technology.  Patents and breeder rights belong to Hinoman.  Mankai traces back to Southeast Asia. In its dried form, Mankai weighs in with 45% protein.  Obviously Hinoman uses no pesticides, fungicides or hormones.

Mankai can be used as a whole food supplement, fresh vegetable or super ingredient to be added to – you guessed – pasta, bread, and also shakes, salads, crackers; possibilities are endless and the results are an increase in amino acids, fatty acids, iron, zinc and other nutrients.

Allergies?  Mankai is:

  • GMO free
  • Nut free
  • Soy free
  • Low Sodium
  • Gluten free
  • Allergen free
  • Low sugar
  • Low car
  • BSE / TSE free
  • Low Fat

And the best news? It hardly even tastes like a vegetable.
